1985 Suzuki RGB500 MK10 X3 The machine you have is part “SMC (Suzuki Motor Corporation ) late-development” and part “Production RGB500 MK9/10.”
- The reference to the marking X3 on the chassis and swinging arm is consistent for the recording of semi-development parts that were literally being “used-up” by the RGB500 Low Volume Production Assembly-Line workers, who were tasked to record all assembly component part numbers during the build of the machines.
- The executive decision to completely cease all Motorsport Competition in 1983, extended to all R&D Race Team Staff, who were transferred to other SMC Head Office Departments during 1983/4.
- This “transfer of R&D Race Team Staff”, was immediate and left the Low Volume Production Assembly-Line workers, basically to build the RGB500 MK9/10 machines using whatever chassis components were available on that specific build day.
-- The RG500/RGB500 Production machines were not assembled at the mass production motorcycle assembly plant, but on a Specialised Low Volume Production-Line at SMC Head Office.
-- From the photographs of the machine you have, the Production RGB500 components are the Front Forks and Brake Callipers, with the engine, chassis and semi-development swinging arm being late Production RGB500 MK9/10 based on the XR4550.
--- The full factory Kayaba Front Forks, were returned to the supplying factory when the announcement of the complete withdrawal from all levels of Motorsport Competition was made, as this closed immediately the R&D budget.
